Terms of Service

Last updated: September 20, 2026

Please read these terms before using ScreenDumb. They explain who it is for, what a lock-in commits you to, and the limits of what the software promises.

1. Acceptance of terms

These Terms of Service govern your access to and use of the ScreenDumb website at screendumb.org, the ScreenDumb app, and the screendown pages reached from either. By using them, you agree to these terms. If you do not agree, do not use them.

2. Who we are

ScreenDumb is a company based in Los Angeles, California. Throughout these terms, ScreenDumb, we, us, and our refer to ScreenDumb and the people working on its behalf.

3. Who may use ScreenDumb

ScreenDumb is for people 18 and older managing their own screen time. It is not a parental-control product, it is not directed at children, and it is not intended for anyone under 13.

There are no accounts, so nothing here requires you to register, and there is no login for us to suspend. Access is the app and the website themselves.

4. Using the app

ScreenDumb enforces limits you set on your own device using Apple's Family Controls and Screen Time frameworks. You choose the budgets, the apps, and any lock-in period, and you are responsible for those choices.

A lock-in is meant to be hard to undo — that is the product. Before committing to one, satisfy yourself that you can live with it for its full length.

  • Do not use ScreenDumb to restrict a device that is not yours, or that belongs to someone who has not agreed to it.
  • Do not rely on ScreenDumb where a failure to reach your phone could cause harm. It is not a safety product and it is not a medical device.
  • Do not interfere with the app's operation, attempt to defeat its limits for others, or use it to circumvent an employer's or institution's own policies.

5. Screendown and shared sessions

Screendown lets a group run one shared clock. Anyone with the link or QR code for a space can join it, so treat a host link as public unless you are handing it to people in the room.

Comments left on a results page are emailed to us. We may quote them on this website without any identifying information; write to us if you want a quote or a space removed.

Zones are real places running a permanent session. Listing a venue is not a claim of affiliation with it, and we will remove a zone at the venue's request.

6. Availability

We may change, suspend, or discontinue any part of the app, the website, or screendown at any time. Screendown depends on a network service; if it is unavailable, a shared clock may not start or may not record a sitting.

ScreenDumb is early software and is distributed in test builds while it is. Expect it to change.

7. Intellectual property

Unless otherwise stated, the app, the website, and their content — text, design, images, graphics, code, and brand elements — are owned by ScreenDumb or its licensors and are protected by intellectual property laws.

You may not copy, reproduce, distribute, modify, or create derivative works from them without prior written permission. Third-party names and marks remain the property of their respective owners.

8. Third-party services

The app is distributed through Apple and relies on Apple's frameworks; the site and its services run on third-party infrastructure named in the Privacy Policy. Your use of those services is governed by their own terms, which we do not control.

Links to third-party sites are provided for convenience. We are not responsible for their content, policies, security, or practices.

9. Privacy

The Privacy Policy describes what ScreenDumb collects and what stays on your device. It forms part of these terms.

10. Disclaimers

The app and the site are provided as is and as available. To the fullest extent permitted by law, we disclaim all warranties, express or implied, including warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, non-infringement, availability, accuracy, and security.

We do not warrant that limits will always be enforced, that a shared clock will always be recorded, or that the software will be uninterrupted or error-free.

11. Limitation of liability

To the fullest extent permitted by law, ScreenDumb will not be liable for indirect, incidental, special, consequential, exemplary, or punitive damages, or for lost profits, revenue, data, goodwill, or missed communications arising from your use of the app or the site.

12. Changes to these terms

We may update these terms from time to time. The latest version will be posted on this page with a revised last updated date. Continuing to use ScreenDumb after changes take effect means you accept the updated terms.

13. Governing law

These terms are governed by the laws of the State of California, without regard to conflict-of-law rules.

14. Contact
